Next Now
By Ira Matathia and Marian Salzman

After writing a very successful book in the 1990s called Next, trendspotters Ira Matathia and Marian Salzman are at it again, putting their talents to work to predict the latest trends coming to us. Next Now takes on the coming decade, and includes a review of how some of the predictions of their previous book came to pass.

This is a reference book, there is no plot to follow or characters to get to know. That doesn't mean it's not worth sitting down with however. Who would have thought 20 years ago that someday when you called for computer support or to book a car rental that you would end up speaking with someone on a different continent? Discovering future trends is a basic tenet of business, and those who are able to understand that and adapt to it are a step ahead of everyone else.

Next Now is broken into three sections: The Whole Next World, Cultural Nexts, and Personal Nexts. Each section includes a review of how it was, how it is, and how the writers think our world will change in the coming years. The authors predict a push towards a much simpler life in America, and ask us to "watch for stretching a dollar to become as fashionable as spending one". They also suggest that a persons age will become less and less meaningful, and that the thought of retiring early at 55 will be replaced with people working well past 65, both because of ability and desire. Another prediction is that in the future, people will spend less money on objects, and more money on experiences such as travel and vacations.

Next Now is a must read book for anybody in business, or simply for those people interested in the way our world works and evolves. More can be found out about the book by visiting the website at http://www.nownextonline.com
